Question 7: looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main product

GIFSoup

GIFSoup Through the course of my preliminary task to the main task i have improved in a variety of skills and have used a range of equiptment to help me go though this, in the preliminary task i was able to use a tripod and a camera and use basic but different amount of shots to help to create a 10 shot film that would show careful planning of time and would show each slide of the storyboard. while editing i was able to use imovie and to edit the short film i was only able to shorten a clip by deleting part of the clip and then making it sink with the rest of the clips. In the preliminary task the equiptment that i used was a tripod and camera and imovie whereas in the actual main task i was able to use a tripod, monopod, gerila pod and a camera to create a 2 minute opening sequence, this opening sequence would show how i have improved in group work and how i have improved in my used of the equpitment, for example using the different types of pods, the gerila pod, the tripod and the monopod to create a different range of shots and interesting shot that would help to show the meaning of the opening sequence and to show the audience what the actual film is going to be like.

In my main task i had to work in a group to create a 2 minute opening sequence within this i used a range of equiptment to show the different shots of being watched by using extreme close ups to show being watched by different people and to help to give the impression that the main character is being followed, from the preliminary task to the main task i have improved by using a range of methods that would help with the editing and by using a range of equiptments that would help to read and understand the meaning of the opening sequence. i have improved editing because i am adding more different effects on the 2 minute opening i have used a range of techniques that would help to make each shot flow to one another i have used used a technique that would allow me to delete any background sound that is there and i have used sound, i have help by making the sound link together easier and without any problems and without any stops

Assessment of Evaluation posts for Q. 2 and 3 (SJA Feb 14th)

www:
  • Good to see you have made a good start at working through your Evaluation questions so far Ben.
  • Good incorporation of images, and some creative techniques to communicate your ideas
  • Good attempt to make posts visual in some way
ebi:
  • Q.2 needs MORE IMAGES in the mini movie - SHOW rather than tell - Use screen grabs from your opening sequence to compare your key characters to characters that have featured in similar films. Discuss the various decisions your group made in terms of representation (clothing / costume, props, posture, gender, age... etc...) Wordle doesn't really communicate much for this post.
  • Q. 2 and 3 - Proof read all written posts carefully - Check your use of capital letters and spelling thoroughly - it may help you to type your written posts into WORD first, then do a spelling / grammar check, and then copy in to your blog.
  • Q. 2 - Again, needs more relevant images Ben- your opening sequence represents the female in the typical 'Damsel in Distress' manner - perhaps find images of the typical Damsel in Distress from movies (I used some in class the other day) and use these in this post - comparing to screen grabs from your own opening sequence to explain how you have chosen to represent your female character.
  • Q. 3 - I would like to see more shots from your film to help demonstrate why it fits with the ethos of Lionsgate'

Question 1: In what way does your media product use develop or challenge forms and can conventions of real media product

The conventions that we have used in our opening sequence is introduce setting and mood, this convention is used  to introduce the type of mood the the film would give out, for example a horror would give a frightened and tense mood and a comedy would give a happy mood, at the start the opening sequence will introduce the setting this will allow the audience to understand where the film is set and type of film it is going to be, a forest or on the street will be a good setting for a thriller and alley and dark streets would be set for a horror film. The other convention we have used in our opening sequence would be close ups, the convention close ups will help hide the idenity of the main character until the end of the opening sequence this will allow the audience to start guess and getting ideas about the main character like who they are and what type of person they are.

In our genre we have used the conventions of close ups because this will get the audience interactive within the film and by guessing who the main character is and by making the suggestions if the situation they are in and by thinking about the type of person they are, for example are they a violent character or what can of person are they, are they unemployed or employed, close ups will help to get the audience active within the film and this would make them want to watch on the find out the type of person they are and what the situation that the main character is in. the close ups help to create the feeling that the main character is being watched by someone because the close ups are shown looking at the main character behind the different objects

We have chosen to break the steriotype of a male being the main character by replacing the male with a female this would make the film more interesting to watching because in other films like terminator, the mummy and commando the main characters are all played by male lead because they are more dominate and are usually the people that are taking control of the situation and helping to save the female in distress, whereas in our opening sequence the female are taking the lead role, even though in the opening sequence the main character is meant to show that they are being watched and followed, the way the female is layout to walk and look it shows that she can look after herself in some way but would still need a male to help them.

Question 3: what kind of instintution will distribute your media product and why

As a group we have chosen to use Lionsgate as our distrubtion company for our opening sequence. we chose lionsgate because lionsgate have dstirubted many different types of horrors and thrillers and due to that we chose to use lions gate also we chose it because of how our genre is a mixture of thriller and horror and also it has disturbuted many big brand films, one of the films that the distubution company has distubted is saw and saw is a big brand film and is watched by many people so we decied through the genre of our opening sequences and other films the disturbution company has decided to distribute. the descision behind have the distrubution company lionsgate was to make money, the films that have been distributed by lionsgate have turned out really good films like saw and saw rebirth. we chosen lionsgate because of our theme is a sort of horror thriller and some films that have the distibution company lionsgate.

Question 5: how did you attract and address your target audience

We appealed to our target audience of people through the costume, the charetcers would wear more young youth club and this would show the youth and this would help to capture our young youth target audience because then they are able to related with the charecter because of their costume and also they are able to relate through the setting the opening sequence is filmed in because the setting is the kind of place that teenagers would enjoy to hang down with there mates because it is deserted and not many people stay around there so it would be a good place for the young youth to be able to have fun and enjoy themselves. we also appealed to our target  audience through the way we show them to have more authority than the adults and this helps us to be able to show them to be in control of the situtation and what is going to happen throughout the opening sequence. we asppealed by making the main charecter look more younger but with a very good business, we showed the buisness look through the costume that the main charecter will be wearing,to show the main charecter was a young business women we filmed her walking down erban and lonley forest that not many people walk through.

Assesment 22/01/12

www:
  • Great to see that you have made 3 good attempts at working on the 3 posts we wanted you to have completed Ben
  • Your written explanation is carefully considered and shows some care and attention to responding appropriately to the question
  • You have tried to make 2 of your posts visual by using Wordle
ebi:
  • To improve, you need to carefully check your use of capital letters for the beginning of sentences, and your use of basic punctuation such as question marks for questions. Please check this carefully Ben, especially with the titles of your Evaluation posts - as they are all questions.
  • Your post on the representation of social groups uses Wordle to make it visual - there are many other more imaginative ways you could make this posts super visual Ben. You could include images of various 'types' of people and social groups you intend to feature in your opening sequence - and then discuss how you would construct these various representations through choices in clothing / costumes / facial expressions, make up, hair, etc. You metion that your film is going to portray a 'weak female' - so how do you intend on constructing her so that viewer understand instantly that she is weak and vulnerable? How will viewers respond to her? If she appears too weak, then they might think she is too pathetic and hopeless to ever care about what happens to you. If this is the case, you lose the sense of 'thrill' for viewers, because they will not care if she survives or not...On the other hand, if there is something about her that viewer really connect with and really like (even though she is weak and vulnerable), then they will care about what happens to her. They will want to watch the entire film to make sure she survives. Perhaps she is a mother with young children (the viewers will care more about her survival then...) Think carefully about this...
  • Try and move on from Wordle Ben, as you have used it for 2 out of the 3 posts so far in your evaluation, and to be honest, it's not a very exciting or creative way of presenting your ideas. One use of wordle is fine, with additonal images, etc.
  • For your post on technologies, I would suggest that you come in one lunch or in a free to create a JING presentation where you are talking through all the different technologies you use in day to day media use. You have good notes from the lesson with Ms Fenner here, but this needs visuals and more development.
Effort: GD (good, with some improvement needed)

Question 2: how does your media product represent particular social groups

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our opening sequence we have shown the social group of young adults this helps the opening sequence to be watched a different range of groups like adults, we have chosen to show the social group teenagers because the characters within the opening sequence because we have shown the main character as a young teenage girl that has come from a good background because of the costume we have chosen her to wear and to show this through the way she walks around the setting or the opening sequence. We have repersented the social group through the setting that she is walking through also we have shown the social group through the way that she acts and her body language. The other social group that we have tried to join together with the young adult is, adult and the working class people, we have shown this through the way that she acts and the ways she walks through and from different places and through her suit, we chose to repersent both social group through the suit because the costume is based on a casual suit that people would wear when they are just out with there friends.

we have chosen the main character to be female through many ideas to show the type of group we are repersenting, we chose the main character to be female because this goes against the steriotype because in thrillers the main character is usually male because they are shown to be the most dominate people and females shown as the people always in trouble and the people that full in love with the main character. we have chosen to put angle in the costume of a smart suit to show that she is a young teen that has come from a well background and has a good job and is a professional women because we usually prepresent people with suits as the smart professional people that dont get into trouble they they get people out of trouble. we have tried to dress the main character in costumes that teenagers would usually wear.

Question 4: who would be the audience for your media product

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for our opening sequence are young audiences because the characters that are shown in the opening sequence are young adults and they are doing typical actions that young adults would do.  We show the typical stereotype of young female adults that they need help by a man this is shown in our opening sequence by Angel running through the woods and by Angel always having a worried face and she kept looking behind her to show that she needs a man to help her and to show that she is being followed and that being a young teenage girl they are scared easily, we show this through the fast pace movement on the running scene and the Angel uses facial expression to show a frightened young adult. The target audience would people that enjoy watching films and getting clues about what the main idea and plot is and enjoy films that they are able to get involved, we help the audience to get involved by using different amounts of sound and different effects to show the different emotions of all the people within the opening sequence.

The opening sequence is aimed for people that enjoy films that have a mixture of horror so they can watch a film and feel good about themselves because the people within the film are doing many different actions that allow, this would help to get the audience involved because they are doing the wrong actions and this would help the audience to get involved by telling the people in the film not to do that it’s the wrong choice because the audience would enjoy the film more because they are getting involve with it and all though there is scary scene and there is also scene that would make you feel sorry for the different people and the audience would feel sorry for the young adult because Angel would give the impression that she is being followed.

In our first research of our target audience we have chosen to base the opening sequence for young adults and adults because we have chosen to use them as social groups fro example we have created as the main character a young teenage with a good background and our target audience a young adults and adults because they would be able to relate with the character, the young adults could relate with the main character through the setting that she walks through the places that she visits. The adults could relate with the main character through the way that she is a working person with a good job and they could relate with having to walking for long periods of time and to have to sit on a bench and wait of someone and while they do that they would look through a file of the work and go through what they have to do today.

Questions 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing

Working in your groups to edit adds more to the list:

In the group we used the effect fog and to create the effect on the audience of good and evil, we changed the colour of the fog to red and these shows evil because red is always used to show people that are evil. To show the audience the type of opening sequence it is we used the sound voice from hell because this creates the feeling of death and evil and gets the audience wanting to watch on to see what the film is about. We used phone vibrations and clock sound to make the particular clips stand out from the rest of the because the sounds would be louder the would sync with the rest of the clip. We used a drum beat to make the running scenes stand out more to show the theme of panic and this gets the audience worried about what is going to happen, to show the change in place we changed the sound to horror ambiance sound and this creates a scary effect for the audience.

Write down the names of the technology that you have used:
IMovie
Jing
Camera
Tripod
Internet
YouTube
Free sound
Gorilla pod

Write the name of the specific tools/ affects you have used:
Transition-dissolved

Effected- Aged film

costume, props and location

The costume is a grey Hoodie, blue jeans, black canvas shoes

Prop mobile phone to create an eerie effect because we are going to use it for the main character to answer and this will make the audience ask questions about who is on the phone and what do they want.

Casting - Ben Wakley

We have chosen ben to play the other man that followed Angel because he does Btec Drama and that allows him to capture the exact emotions of the character.

Titles

We chose many different font, but we couldn't choose all of them. We wanted to use three different type and these are the ones we preferred.

Initial Ideas

The really good location idea we had was the forest, the reason for this was because it creates a mysterious atmosphere which would intrigue the audience and ensure the security of their attention. The best prop we have would be a threatening note saying; "Your Time is Up!" which would force the audience to ask the question of what would happen which would also make them want to watch more of the film.
